Dancing On Ice Exclusive Jennifer Ellison backstage blogWell now we’ve seen everyone skate and I’ve realised that I have managed to join Dancing on Ice on the year that they have got the best skaters in living memory (well for a few years at least). Pretty much everyone looks like they can really skate.

Matthew Wolfenden was amazing and deserved his 20.5 score and is clearly going to be a front runner throughout the series but also Chico, who has only had one week practising with his partner, pulled out a well-earned 18.5.

But before I go on to anything else I would like to say a big thank you to my dance partner Dan Whiston who was amazing last night. He was still in quite a bit of pain (even though he wouldn’t admit it) but he put on a great performance. Dan was a great support for me and really gave me confidence last night to do my best. And trust me, skating first last night I needed that boost from him.

As you know it wasn’t the best week for us, and I didn’t get to skate with Dan till the end of the week because of his injury. He had been at the rinks watching me and giving advice but he wasn’t able to skate and he was undergoing four hours physio a day to get him through his hamstring injury. But he was amazing and I was happy with our performance and obviously very glad that we went through without having to do the dreaded skate-off.

Another great support for me to get through and do well was from my family, husband Robbie and our son Bobby who gave a thumbs up on live TV. Robbie had only just taught him how to do that a few days before and it was hilarious when he did it right on cue.

I had quite a few family and friends supporting in the audience wearing red T shirts with white letters emblazoned on them saying “Keep Calm and Vote Danifer”This week the producers had me dressed in a 40s style red outfit and I liked my hair for the night – I looked like Roxie Hart the character from Chicago, that I played a few years ago.

I didn’t really know the song too well that we danced but next week's track for Cinema night is a favourite of mine so I’m happy about that (I would tell you what it is but the TV producers have sworn us all to secrecy not to reveal elements from the next week’s show).

So the next few days I’m looking forward to practicing with Dan up north and we are really going to be giving it our all. There’s no excuses this time and we’ve really got to up the ante but thankfully I’ve been told that we shouldn’t have to skate first for quite a while, which is good. Nobody likes to go first as it’s very nerve-wracking.

We were all sorry to see Laila Morse go at the end of the night. I didn’t think it would be her in the skate-off because she’s got massive public support and was trending on twitter earlier in the evening. She’s really struggled with her shoulder injury but she’s never once complained or wanted anyone to feel sorry for her and she got out there did her best and everyone loved her for it.  One last thing, and it's the most important thing of all, thank you to everyone who voted for me. I really appreciate it.
